Pre-School Story Time
No story time on Friday, November 23, 2018.
No story time Wed., December 26 & Fri., December 28, 2018.
Story time begins at 10:30 am on Wednesday and Friday mornings during the months September through May. The same program is offered on Wednesday and Friday of the same week. Story time lasts approximately 45 minutes to one hour. During this time children will listen to two or three books, sing songs, participate in activities, and create a craft revolving around a specific weekly theme. Our story time programs are designed to teach preschoolers creative expression, social skills, listening and comprehension skills, the basics of reading through number and letter recognition, and aid in vocabulary building and cognitive development. This program is designed for children age birth through Kindergarten though all children are welcome to attend with an adult. Daycares are also welcome. Story time is a free program.
Summer Learning Program 2019
“A Universe of Stories” will be the theme for the 2019 Kenyon Public Library’s Summer Learning Program. Toddlers, tweens and teens are encouraged to participate! Book reports, challenge sheets, and boredom busters will be available starting June 3. Prizes will be awarded for completed activities. More information will be coming in Spring 2019!
Marley’s next visit will be in Spring 2019!
Pawsome Readers is a children’s reading program offered at the Kenyon Public Library. Children may bring a book from home or pick a book or two at the library to read to Marley, a certified reading therapy dog. Reading to Marley can help build confidence and self-esteem for children while improving their reading skills. All children are welcome to read to Marley no matter their age or reading ability. Too young to read? That’s OK! Parents, grandparents, or an older sibling are welcome to read to Marley while the child listens. We offer one-on-one, 10-15 minute sessions depending on availability. For more information, or to sign up for a session, please contact the library at 507-789-6821.
Join us Wednesdays in July and August at 11:00 a.m. on the grass across from Veterans’ Memorial Park (between Langford Ave. & HWY 56) for Book-A-Lunch! Kids are encouraged to bring blankets, lawn chairs, and/or a snack while we read to you in the park. If it is raining or if the grass is wet, we will meet inside the library. Follow our Facebook page HERE for updates if we will meet inside on a particular day.
Adult Book Groups
We have two adult book groups that meet at the library. One book group meets the last Monday of the month at 1:30 pm and the other group meets the second Thursday of the month at 4:00 pm. New members are always welcome.
The annual book sale is held each year in August during Kenyon’s Rose Fest celebration. The sale is located in the City of Kenyon Council Chambers, which is in the same building as the library. The remaining materials that do not sell in the annual book sale are moved into the library for our on-going book sale that continues through November. Please contact the library if you would like more information about the book sale.
We have moved the remaining books from the 2018 Rose Fest Book Sale into the library. All items have been reduced to 10 cents per item. Stop in during our regular hours to shop!
Material donations must be in good, clean condition. This means books are free from mildew, mold and water damage. Book covers cannot be missing. We do not accept any VHS tapes. Please no condensed books, i.e. Reader’s Digest. Textbooks and medical books must not be older than 10 years. DVDs, CDs, and gently used books are appreciated. Monetary donations are accepted at any time and are greatly appreciated!
We will begin accepting donations April 1, 2019 for the 2019 Rose Fest Book Sale. Thank you!
